The team insisted that all the “voices” must come from real animals, so for the film they recorded real animals
Narrative
The cat is a loner, but when his home is destroyed by a great flood, he finds refuge on a boat inhabited by different species and must join forces with them despite their differences. To get the sound of the capybara, the sound engineer had to go to the zoo and tickle the capybara. However, the sounds of a real capybara did not fit the personality that the capybara character was supposed to have, so instead a baby camel was used in this film.
“Flow/Straume” is something truly unique
I have never seen anything like it, either in terms of story or storytelling style. The 3D animation has a deep resonance – it feels complete and as if something is intentionally missing, which gives it a special charm. The main idea of the film – the inevitable “water world” – is memorable.
The unstoppable end that comes, no matter how skeptical we are
The water comes and fills every corner, despite all our hopes and doubts. For me, this film was like a dream where my collected memories came to life. Echoes of Beyond the Horizon, Avatar, Waterworld and Tiger Shipwreck seemed to coexist in it.
It is a world where animals are both anthropomorphic and raw in their true form
This is not just a film – it is a journey through a surreal and subconscious land. At times in the film, I froze with my mouth open waiting for the resolution. Scenes where birds break the wings of those who disagree with them, helpers are distracted by trivial activities and friends walk beside you and expect nothing in return – these moments reflect the essence of life.
It is something that must be seen and experienced to truly understand
“Flow / Straume” is an emotional and visual odyssey that is hard to put into words.
